Post #48: National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day

National Bubble Wrap Day

National Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day is observed annually on the last Monday in January.  The primary purpose of bubble wrap is to protect fragile items either in shipping or storage.  People also get enjoyment from popping the bubbles in bubble wrap.

Some people say that popping the bubbles in bubble wrap is "satisfying".  What other activity do find satisfying?  Tell me about it.

National Pie Day was created simply to celebrate the pie.  It is a day for all to bake or cook their favorite pies.  Even more importantly, it is a day set aside for all to enjoy eating pies!
The first pies appeared around 9500 BC in the Egyptian Neolithic period or New Stone Age.
Fun Tidbit – Pie throwing:
Cream filled or topped pies are favorite props for humor.  Throwing a pie in a person’s face has been a staple of film comedy since Ben Turpin received one in Mr. Flip in 1909.

Post #44: National Cheese Lovers Day

Don’t feel bleu, throw a feta or act capricious. January 20th is a gouda day to kummin over and have some cheddar or asiago or fontina! It’s National Cheese Lover’s Day. The earliest record of cheese making dates back to 5,500 BCE in what is now Poland.  Today there are over 1,400 varieties of cheese. The basic principles behind making cheese are quite simple. Let the milk sour (or scientifically, coagulating the casein protein). Then separate the curds (solids) from the whey (liquid).
Do you like cheese? If so, what is your favorite kind of? Do you have a favorite food that you put cheese on? If you don't like cheese, tell my why.

Today is Friday the 13th, known by many as the unluckiest day of the year.
While many will laugh off the superstitious day, others will remain in bed paralyzed by fear and avoid daily tasks, conducting business or traveling. In the U.S., an estimated 17 to 21 million people suffer from a fear of Friday the 13th.

There will be two incidences of the superstitious day this year, Jan. 13 and October 13. In the Gregorian calendar, Friday the 13th always occurs at least once a year and can appear up to three times in any one year.

The origin of fears surrounding Friday the 13th is unclear. There is reportedly no written evidence of Friday the 13th superstition before the 19th century, but superstitions surrounding the number 13 date back to at least 1700 BC.
Take a look at this video for more information about Friday the 13th.

So how to you feel about this dreaded day?  Is it real or just the silly thinking of superstitious people?
